KRISTIINA USLAR       Statement    +    CV

Born: 17.05.1973  Estonia Pärnu

Resides:  Estonia

Statement:

The inspiration for my glass is based on the mysterious net systems of the Roman cage-cups.  My intention and goal was not to restore the technique but to study and develop it toward artwork, and through this, to gradually unfold the variety of ways in which the technique can be innovated.

Almost all my works are made in pâte-de-verre. I am charmed by this technique. The final result can be extremely tender and fragile. For me it is interesting to find the borders between fragility, complexity and quantity. Definite systems, airy quality, density of columns and networks, layers supported by each other are the keywords to describe my work.  In my glass, I would like to emphasize airiness and fragility and at the same time, play with the sizes and thickness of the nets and columns.  One of the most important parts of the technical side is to make the object in one piece.
