The Stein Collection is an exhibition of artworks billed by the SFMOMA as masterworks of the Parisian avant-garde movement. Containing 75 works by Henri Matisse and 45 by Pablo Picasso, along with others by Paul Cezanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Juan Gris, Francis Picabia, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, this exhibition reunites more than 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and illustrated books that are mostly in private collections and almost never loaned out to museums. The exhibition offers an intimate portrait of the birth of modern art and the lives of these very special individuals. Through September 6 at the SFMOMA.
