Statement:
My most recent sculptures encourage new
ways of looking at photography, allowing the fluid and optical quality of
glass to bring deeper meaning to the photographic image. I use the
camera as a starting point for my experimental creative process -
emphasizing the beauty of its design and function by focusing on how images
shape our memories, dreams and consciousness. By taking photographs
and joining them with glass, I link two diverse artistic vocabularies
together to form a single sculptural vernacular. As these ideas and
images connect, the natural play of light and optics, inherently found in
glass, imitates the actual process of taking pictures and exposing
negatives. This collection, entitled, "Day Residue," draws a linear
connection with photography, psychology, physics, and contemporary
sculpture.
